SOLVAY FAMILY
1894
Armand Solvay, son of the industrialist Ernest Solvay, commissions the architect
Victor Horta to build his family home on Avenue Louise in Brussels.

1958
Louis and Berthe Wittamer-De Camps buy the Hôtel Solvay to set up their haute-couture workshops.

1976
Relocation of the couture workshops. Louis and Berthe Wittamer devoted themselves to restoring this exceptional building to its pristine condition and preserving it.

1983
The Hôtel Solvay becomes a private house open on request for guided tours. The Hôtel Solvay is emptied of all commercial activity, and restoration work continues unabated.

2000
The Hôtel Solvay is inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List as a masterpiece of Art
Nouveau architecture.

2021
Recognition of the museum status of the Hôtel Solvay and launch of the platform for individual visitors.

2022 - 2024
Major restoration project.
January 2022: Start of restoration of the façade
June 2023: Start of restoration work on the roof and glass roofs

October 2024
Hôtel Solvay unveils its restored façade

2025
The Hôtel Solvay celebrates the 25th anniversary of its UNESCO classification. To mark this anniversary, a new book on the Hôtel Solvay will be published, and an exhibition dedicated to the Valens fashion house, which saved the building from demolition, will be organised.
